Postnatal Rockabye

Postnatal Rockabye is a small group for mums and pre-crawling babies where you can:

  • come and meet other parents
  • share your experiences
  • spend time nourishing the bond between you and your baby

Talking and listening to other parents can help you feel more confident and stronger as a new parent.

Sharing the struggles that all new parents experience can help you feel you are not alone. At Rockabye we aim to provide a non-judgemental and accepting space for you to share your difficulties.

There may be something getting in the way of you feeling like you can enjoy time with your baby:

  • Are you feeling low or worried?
  • Are you suffering from postnatal depression or anxiety, or other mental health difficulties?
  • Perhaps you had a difficult birth experience or a difficult journey to becoming a parent?

Like many new parents, you may be finding the transition to parenthood harder than you thought. Or there may be something difficult going on in your life at the moment. Postnatal Rockabye is a space where you can feel really heard and supported.

As well as time to talk and be heard, we also spend time playing, singing and doing enjoyable activities which can help you feel more connected to your baby. This can become a special time to nourish the bond with your baby, and give you ideas of things you can do at home.

How we work

Postnatal Rockabye is run in several Bristol Children’s Centres by Rockabye practitioners. They are either therapists or Family Support Workers who have undergone additional substantial training; they receive ongoing supervision and continuing professional development.

We run Postnatal Rockabye in 10-12 week programmes. It is a closed group so the same families attend for the whole programme.

Prior to the programme starting we will meet with you so you can find out more about what happens in the sessions and ask any questions you may have.

During each session there is a facilitated space for you to talk about what it’s really like being a parent. We create a safe, non-judgemental, accepting atmosphere, where you can share how things are for you and your baby.

We then provide structured activities: sensory play, action songs, nursery rhymes, music and instruments. This gives you time to focus on your baby, have fun and nourish your connection. Sessions usually last for 1.25 hours.
